Sticking Tapes Cover Nose-rings of Girl students appearing for CET : Mental harassment by Karnataka Examination Authority

Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka) – The Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for 2026 has started from today in the State. There is a ban on wearing any metal ornaments by the examinees during the examinations; therefore, hundreds of girl students were stopped before entering the centres and asked to remove the ornaments like nose-rings, earrings, etc., at some centres. In MES College in Chikkmagaluru, the staff at the centre used tapes to cover their nose-rings where the girl students couldn’t remove the ornaments and only then, they were allowed to enter the examination centre. Parents of the girl students were displeased as tapes were used to cover the rings worn by the girls. There was a lot of chaos among the girl students due to the tension of the examination and the strange treatment meted out to them.

In ten centres in Ballari district, CET examinations are going on. The staff at the examination centres asked the girl students to remove their nose-rings and earrings before allowing them entry. Besides, the students were also asked to remove the holy threads worn around the necks and wrists by them.

Editorial Perspective

Isn’t it a mental torture to ask girl students to remove their gold ornaments during examinations when there is no relevance to writing exams and wearing ornaments ?
