Delay by administration in identifying infiltrators availing government schemes

Mumbai, 17 April – The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has recently submitted another list of over 8,000 Bangladeshi infiltrators to the State Government. A total of 7,800 cases have reportedly been registered against these individuals. Earlier, a list of 1,237 Bangladeshi infiltrators had also been sent to the government by the ATS. Based on these lists, various government departments are verifying whether these infiltrators are availing benefits under government schemes.
It has been reported that many of these individuals have obtained official documents such as birth certificates, Aadhaar cards, ration cards, PAN cards, and driving licences using forged documents. On this basis, they are believed to have accessed benefits from one or more government schemes.
Despite nearly a year, no verification on infiltrators in government schemesIn May 2025, a list of 1,237 Bangladeshi infiltrators was circulated from the Mantralaya to all district supply officers across the State to verify whether their names appear on ration cards and whether they are availing food grain benefits. However, even after nearly a year, no district has submitted the required information. A reminder was issued by the Food and Civil Supplies Department, but no response has been received so far. |
Action will be taken if compliance is not ensured – Food and Civil Supplies DepartmentDespite reminders, information regarding whether Bangladeshi infiltrators are availing benefits through ration cards has not been received. A meeting will be convened next week with all district supply officers to ensure that verification is completed on priority. If action is still not taken, appropriate action will be initiated against the concerned officials, stated Ashok Atram, Deputy Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, while speaking to a correspondent. |
