Claim of a conspiracy to Islamise the Dattapeetha premises at Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka) !

Hindus outraged over illegal tombs being constructed on the route to Manikyadhara Waterfall

Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka) – A conspiracy is allegedly being hatched to construct new illegal tombs draped with green cloth on the route leading to the famous Manikyadhara Waterfall in the Dattapeetha area, a Hindu religious site. It is being claimed that these tombs are being constructed about 6 kilometres from Dattapeetha. Activists of the Bajrang Dal have alleged that, through this, unauthorised Islamic symbols are being created in the area and new religious practices are being introduced.

The ownership of Dattapeetha is already the subject of an ongoing legal dispute between Hindus and Muslims. Muslims refer to the site as the ‘Inam Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah’.

Speaking to the local media regarding these alleged illegal tombs, Bajrang Dal leader Raghu Sakleshpur said, “These illegal activities are taking place before the eyes of officials from the Religious Endowments Department and the Police, yet they remain silent. According to the court’s order, no new religious practices or new construction are permitted in the Dattapeetha area. However, the court’s order is being trampled upon here.”

Hindu organisations have warned that the district administration should immediately intervene, prohibit the practice of draping green cloth over the structures for worship, and remove the illegal tombs.

Allegations of illegal tomb construction are baseless! – Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama

In connection with the matter, a Sanatan Prabhat correspondent spoke to Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama. He claimed that the information received by the Hindu organisations was incorrect and that the allegation of illegal tomb construction was baseless.

He further stated that the Dattapeetha case is pending before the Supreme Court, which has ordered that no new construction be undertaken in the area. “We are vigilant in ensuring compliance with that order. The photographs claiming to show newly constructed tombs are six years old, and the issue is being raised only now. Hindus and Muslims should maintain peace over this matter. I have personally explained this to Bajrang Dal leader Raghu Sakleshpur,” he said.

Attempts were made to contact Mr Sakleshpur to verify the Superintendent’s statement; however, he could not be reached.

Editorial Perspective

If such incidents do not occur under the Congress government in Karnataka, which has a fondness for tombs, that would be surprising ! To foil this conspiracy, Hindus from not only Chikkamagaluru but across the State should unite and oppose it !
