Licences of 6 hotels, bakeries and clubs suspended in Mumbai; 19 people arrested

Mumbai – Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe launched a major enforcement drive in Mumbai against establishments violating food safety regulations. The food business licences of six hotels, bakeries and clubs were suspended. During a special inspection campaign conducted across the State, officials found several serious violations, including unhygienic conditions, sale of expired food products, incorrect labelling, insect infestation, and the absence of mandatory documentation. As part of the campaign, raids were carried out at 31 locations across Maharashtra. During the inspections, banned gutkha, pan masala and other food products worth ₹34,87,603 were seized. Nineteen persons were arrested for selling, transporting and distributing banned food products, and three vehicles were also seized.

1. At the ‘Flint & Warsa’ hotel in Nariman Point, food products with incorrect labelling were found, and expired food items were immediately destroyed.

2. A bakery in Borivali was found to be operating in highly unhygienic conditions.
Some hotels in Bhandup, Santacruz, Andheri and Bandra were also found to have poor hygiene, with cockroach and rat infestation.
