Complaint filed against AIMIM councillor Sahar Sheikh

  • Fake caste certificate case

  • Demand by the complainant to register a case of cheating

Thane, Maharashtra – During the municipal elections, AIMIM councillor Sahar Sheikh allegedly misled officials and obtained a fake caste certificate in Maharashtra. In this regard, Siddiqui Ahmed filed a complaint with the Thane Sub-Divisional Officer’s office seeking verification of Sheikh’s caste certificate. The complainant has demanded a detailed inquiry and registration of a cheating case. It has also been alleged that Sheikh misled the Mumbai City District Collector’s office to obtain the caste certificate.

1. Sheikh’s father, Yunus Iqbal Sheikh, a native of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, had migrated to Maharashtra.

2. Despite Form 10 being applicable to migrants, he allegedly misled officials by using Form 8 meant for Other Backward Classes. Based on this, his daughter obtained a caste certificate, contested the election, and won.

3. As per the complaint received by the Thane Tehsildar, Yunus remained absent during the hearing held on 18 March citing illness. His advocate, who was present, submitted a copy of the caste certificate and other documents.

4. During the subsequent hearing on 23 March, the Tehsildar pointed out discrepancies in Sheikh’s caste certificate.
