Bhopal (MP) – The Government led by Dr Mohan Yadav is preparing to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Madhya Pradesh. During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister instructed ministers to study the provisions of the UCC, signalling the state’s intent to move forward with its implementation.
Following this direction, work has accelerated within the Home Department, which is responsible for drafting the proposed legislation. According to sources, a high-level committee is expected to be constituted at the state level soon. The Government is aiming to implement the UCC before Diwali this year.
Drafting process and study of existing models
Before preparing the draft, officials are studying the UCC frameworks already implemented in Goa and Uttarakhand. The objective is to develop a practical and balanced model suited to Madhya Pradesh’s socio-legal context.
