  • Strong action by the Yogi Adityanath government

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) — The Yogi Adityanath government has taken strict action against those involved in black marketing of petrol, diesel, and LPG in the state. Since March 12, raids have been conducted at 12,732 locations across the state, and cases have been registered against 177 individuals. So far, 16 people have been arrested, and further legal action is underway against 185 suspects. According to the administration, this crackdown has helped restore normal fuel supply across the state. Acting on the Chief Minister’s directives, authorities adopted an aggressive approach to curb illegal sales.

To stabilise fuel supply in the state, an important decision has been taken in coordination with the central government. The allocation of commercial LPG cylinders has been increased by 20 percent, effective from March 23, 2026. This has ensured timely availability of gas for commercial users as well. The government stated that sufficient stock is currently available with all 4,108 LPG distributors in the state. The Chief Secretary has issued necessary instructions to all District Magistrates to ensure timely supply of cylinders to consumers.

Control rooms set up to avoid inconvenience to citizens

To prevent inconvenience to citizens, 24-hour control rooms have been set up at the office of the Food Commissioner and the Home Department. Officials have been deployed in shifts, and complaints related to fuel supply are being addressed promptly. In addition, district supply officers and local administrative teams are closely monitoring the situation on the ground. Continuous supervision is being maintained to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel and gas to the general public.

Editorial Perspective

Similar strict action should be taken in other states as well, so that black marketers are deterred.
