New Delhi – The situation in Garo Hills in Meghalaya is grim. The Bangladeshi infiltrators are contesting elections. BJP MP Ravishankar Prasad has alleged that Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators are following the same pattern like in Bengal and Jharkhand.

Mr Prasad further added that presently, there is unrest and riot like situation in Garo Hills. Bangladeshi infiltrators have come in large numbers in this region. Garo Zilha Parishad is an autonomous district council and has administrative rights under the Indian Constitution. Only officially certified tribals are eligible to contest elections; however, Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators have adopted a new system as compared to the situation in Bengal and Jharkhand. They are marrying the local tribal women and then, they divorce them; but, on this basis, they obtain necessary certificates and claim to contest as candidates in the election.
In another post, Mr Prasad has stated that the problem started with Mr Esmatur Mominin, the former MLA from Phulbari constituency, and who is a member of Trinamool Congress (TMC). He filed his candidature on 09.03.2026 for the Garo Hills autonomous district council elections. His candidature was, however, opposed since he is not a tribal. His supporters, therefore, attacked the people who were opposing, triggering riots. Two persons lost their lives in the riots. We strongly condemn this non-tribal conspiracy of grabbing rights of the tribal communities of Garo Hills.
Editorial PerspectiveIt shows the systematic way followed by Bangladeshi infiltrators to establish their control. This condition will spread across the country if Hindus do not wake up even now. |
