If the World Cup trophy is taken to a temple, what is wrong with it; but it is not permitted in a mosque ! : Maulana Sajid Rashidi

New Delhi – “What would you do if someone said that the trophy should also be taken to a mosque? Would you take the trophy to a mosque? Such things are not allowed in a mosque. Bringing a trophy into a mosque is not permitted. If someone wishes to take the trophy to a temple, what is wrong with it ?” said Maulana Sajid Rashidi, President of the All India Imam Association.

After the Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup tournament held at the stadium in Karnavati, the trophy was taken to the famous Hanuman temple in the city and offered at the feet of Shri Hanuman. Former Indian cricketer and Trinamool Congress leader Kirti Azad had criticised this incident, stating that the trophy should also be taken to churches and mosques as India is a secular country. Rashidi made the above statement while responding to this criticism.
