Mumbai, March 9 – Earlier, prostitutes used to stand only outside brothels; however, they are now openly seen at public places in Mumbai to lure customers. Prostitutes are usually seen after 7 p.m. at railway stations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Churchgate, Dadar, Parel, Kanjurmarg, Mulund and Kalyan. Apart from railway stations, they are also seen on busy roads in the city. This situation is extremely regrettable from the perspective of the Police administration and even more serious from the perspective of the social structure.

Around the time when office-goers return from work, these women are seen standing at crowded places with heavy make-up to attract customers. Prostitutes are also seen on the roads outside Dadar, Parel and Grant Road railway stations. On many occasions, even when Police personnel are present nearby, they do not question or stop them. Hence, there is a possibility that such activities are continuing after paying money to the Police.

Prostitutes seen standing on the bridge at Dadar railway station !

On the bridge connecting the eastern side near the Kailas Mandir shop to the western side at Dadar railway station, prostitutes are seen standing at regular intervals. Some men are seen standing nearby to keep watch over them. These women attempt to attract the attention of citizens passing over the bridge. Even the Railway Police present there do not question them. For the past few days, prostitutes have been regularly seen standing on this bridge.

It is suspected that rooms in certain hotels located in the areas where these prostitutes stand are being reserved for prostitution. Women openly standing at crowded public places to attract citizens indicates the deteriorating state of society. The Police and administration need to take serious note of this and act promptly to curb such activities in time.

Editorial Perspective

The Government must take strict action even against those in the Police and administration who fail to stop such openly occurring wrong activities !
