Teacher extorts 80 grams of gold from a student by promising to provide SSLC question paper !

Education Department issues notice to the teacher

Dharwad (Karnataka) – A teacher has allegedly extorted 80 grams of gold from a student by promising to provide the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) examination question paper in advance. The Education Department has now initiated action against the teacher who cheated the student with this promise. The case has taken a serious turn after the student allegedly attempted suicide out of depression following the incident. (What moral values can such corrupt teachers impart to students ? – Editor)

1. Rajshekhar Vadter, a teacher at Vidyaranya High School under the reputed K.E. Board in Dharwad, allegedly lured a Class 10 student, Abhishek Shivanand Karki, into his trap. Promising to provide the question paper in advance to help him pass the examination, the teacher demanded a large sum of money and gold.

2. Trusting the teacher’s words, Abhishek handed over gold jewellery weighing about 80 grams from his house.

3. After the examination, when the student demanded the return of his gold, teacher Rajshekhar Vadter allegedly refused to return it. It is also alleged that he threatened the student saying he would not be allowed to appear for the supplementary examination.

4. Distressed over losing his family’s gold, Abhishek attempted suicide.

5. The student’s mother, Sarojini Shivanand Karki, has lodged a complaint with the Education Department regarding this serious incident.

6. Taking serious note of the complaint, the Deputy Director of the School Education Department in Dharwad has issued an official notice to the President and Secretary of the K.E. Education Board. The notice directs them to immediately investigate the concerned teacher, initiate disciplinary action, and submit a report without delay.

7. Angry parents are questioning, “If teachers who are responsible for guiding children on the right path behave in this manner, whom should society trust ?”
