Chennai (Tamil Nadu) – In Krishnagiri district, police have arrested M. Periyanayagam, a local office-bearer associated with the youth wing of the ruling DMK party, for sexually assaulting a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, leading to her death. A case has been registered against the accused under the POCSO Act and other serious sections related to murder. The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the state, and opposition parties have criticized the government over concerns about law and order.

Periyanayagam was living in a live-in relationship with a woman who had a daughter. A few days ago, when the child’s health suddenly deteriorated, she was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The child’s biological father grew suspicious and filed a complaint. Following this, the police began an investigation.
