Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expresses apprehension

Guwahati (Assam) – The current situation in Assam is not very good. A large part of the Muslim population in Assam has come illegally from Bangladesh. This infiltration took place mainly at a time when the Congress was in power in the state and at the Centre. The governments did not monitor the borders properly, which disturbed the demographic balance in the state. Illegal infiltration is one of the biggest challenges faced by Assam and the entire North East. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed concern that some people in Assam may support Bangladesh in any future conflict, which could pose a security threat. The Chief Minister said that the government is taking stringent steps to protect the state’s identity, land and resources. These include drives to remove illegal encroachments, enhanced surveillance and updation of NRCs in border areas. The present government is committed to ensure the security and stability of the state by correcting the historical blunders.
Congress leaders have termed the allegations as false and divisive in the society. They say the statement is an attempt to divert people’s attention from the real issues.
Editorial PerspectiveA campaign should be launched on a war footing to find such people and drive them out of the country. |
