Efforts to make ‘Vande Mataram’ mandatory are Hindutva propaganda: Asaduddin Owaisi

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that ‘Vande Mataram’ is the national song, but there is no law in the Constitution that makes it mandatory to sing it. The attempts to make ‘Vande Mataram’ mandatory are for the propagation of Hindutva and are a blow to secularism. Muslims worship only Allah, and it is wrong to measure national sentiment based on religion. ‘Vande Mataram’ is being forcibly added in the name of Hindutva, which is against the basic principles of the Constitution.

Wrong to create religious or cultural pressure: Akhilesh Yadav, MP, Samajwadi Party

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav said that the Constitution has given citizens the right to choose their songs, and it is one’s personal opinion to listen to them or not. Forcibly adding ‘Vande Mataram’ creates religious and cultural pressure, which is not inherent in an inclusive national spirit.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi had also expressed his opposition to listening to or singing Vande Mataram. He had said that the sentiments of Muslims need to be respected, and the idea of making Vande Mataram mandatory is wrong.
