Kawardha (Chhattisgarh): On 2nd February, in a grand event held in Damgarh village of the district, 66 Hindu families re-entered Hinduism. In the presence of BJP MLA Bhavana Bohra, these families decided to return to their original religion. On this occasion, the MLA personally washed their feet and welcomed them by applying a tilak. As a result, this ‘Ghar Wapsi’ (homecoming) ceremony became a major topic of discussion in the entire area.
1.At the ‘Adivasi Gaurav Sammelan’ organized in Damgarh village, these families were honoured in a traditional manner. MLA Bhavana Bohra stated that the tribal community is the true guardian of India’s ancient culture. She alleged that some Christian missionaries mislead poor Hindus by offering inducements; however, the Hindu community has now become aware and alert.
2.Earlier, about 185 people from the Neur and Kui–Kukdur areas had returned to Hinduism through the initiative of MLA Bhavana Bohra.
3.The ongoing ‘Ghar Wapsi’ activities in the region are being seen as a strong response to the religious conversion efforts of Christian missionaries. A large number of villagers and social workers were present at the event.
