
Mumbai – Nationalist Congress Party leader and wife of late Ajit Pawar, Sunetra Pawar, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister at Raj Bhavan on January 31. Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were present on the occasion. Sunetra Pawar has become Maharashtra’s first woman Deputy Chief Minister. The post of Deputy Chief Minister had fallen vacant following the untimely demise of Ajit Pawar.
The brief ceremony was completed within 10 minutes in the presence of NCP MLAs. After the national anthem and the Maharashtra state song, Sunetra Pawar took the oath of office and secrecy. On this occasion, NCP office-bearers raised slogans of “Ajitdada Amar Rahe.” Before taking oath as Deputy Chief Minister, Sunetra Pawar resigned from her post as a Member of Parliament. She was a Rajya Sabha MP from the Nationalist Congress Party. Ajit Pawar earlier held portfolios such as Finance, Excise, Sports, and Planning. Which departments will be assigned to Sunetra Pawar has not yet been announced.
