7 killed in a suicide attack on a Chinese restaurant in Kabul (Afghanistan)

Kabul (Afghanistan): On 19th January in the afternoon, a suicide bombing occurred at a Chinese restaurant named “China Lanzhou Beef Noodles”. One Chinese citizen and six Afghan citizens were killed. Many people were injured, including several children. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Islamic State’s Amaq news agency said that its Afghan branch has included Chinese citizens on its list of targets. The terrorist organisation claimed that the attack was carried out due to the increasing repression by the Chinese Government against Uighur Muslims.
Police spokesperson Khalid Zadran said that one of the deceased has been identified as a Chinese citizen named Ayub. The Chinese restaurant was jointly run by a Chinese Muslim, Abdul Majid, his wife, and an Afghan partner, Abdul Jabbar Mahmoud. Most of the restaurant’s customers were Chinese Muslims.
