Kanker (Chhattisgarh) – In this district, on January 18, more than 200 citizens from 50 Christian families from various villages in the Pidhapal area renounced Christianity and returned to their original Hindu faith. The ceremony was conducted with the consent of the community and according to traditional rituals. The citizens who returned to Hinduism stated that they had been converted earlier by being promised cures for illnesses and other inducements. After self-reflection, they themselves decided to return to their original Hindu religion.

1. Fifty families from six villages – Pidhapal, Dhantulsi, Mode, Salhebhat, Kirgapati, and Tarandul – have decided to return to their original faith. The citizens who returned stated that this decision was not taken under any pressure, but after prolonged dialogue and meetings.

2. The ‘Ghar Wapsi’ (homecoming) program was organized in the temple premises of Pidhapal village. The citizens were formally brought back into Sanatan Dharma through religious rituals and traditional ceremonies. People’s representatives, senior citizens of the community, and members of various social organizations were present on this occasion.

3. Ishwar Kawade, a member of the tribal community, said that the citizens have voluntarily returned to their original religion. He added that members of the remaining converted families in the area will also soon return to their original faith.
