(‘Screen time’ means the increasing amount of time spent on digital devices such as mobile phones, computers, televisions and tablets.)

Nashik, 11 January – The rapidly increasing ‘screen time’ spent on mobile phones, computers, televisions and tablets has emerged as a serious challenge to the physical and mental health of youth. As a solution, a unanimous resolution was passed at the convention of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) stating that it is essential to shift from “screen time to activity time”, that is, to come out of the virtual world and adopt a truly active lifestyle. This information was shared at a press conference in Sangli.

Present at the press conference were Western Maharashtra Regional Minister Atharva Kulkarni, Sangli City President Dr Siddheshwar Jadhav and City Minister Avneesh Yadavade. A total of 776 delegates from across the State attended the convention.

At the press conference, the following points were highlighted :

1. ABVP Western Maharashtra Region’s 60th Diamond Jubilee Convention was held with great enthusiasm in Nashik at Swatantryaveer Savarkarnagar, Dongre Hostel Ground from 3 to 5 January.

2. Along with youth health, several important issues related to the education sector were discussed in depth during the convention.

3. Serious concern was expressed that decisions such as the ‘carry on’ policy adopted by various universities (allowing failed students to take admission in the next academic year), along with irregular academic schedules, have long-term and negative effects on students’ academic quality.

4. A resolution demanding “sustainable development for Nashik, the city of Kumbh” was also unanimously passed at the convention.
