Guwahati (Assam) – The reserve forest land admeasuring 5250 bigha (1735 acres) in Hojai district of Assam has been freed under a major eviction drive undertaken by the State Government. The encroachments were removed with the help of bulldozers and the land was taken back under its control by the Government. The State Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma declared on ‘X’ that illegal occupation will not be tolerated.

Action against Bangladeshi Infiltrators

This land was illegally occupied by 1250 families of Bangladeshi infiltrators. Out of them, cases against 152 families are pending in the Guwahati High Court; therefore, they have been temporarily left out of the action. The other 1098 families are being evicted after following due legal procedure.

Editorial Perspective

Congratulations to the BJP Government of Assam; but what was the administration doing till there was such large encroachment on the land ? The concerned irresponsible officers should also be punished for this lapse.
