Bangladesh’s interim Govt cancels Durga Puja, Janmashtami and Saraswati Puja holidays

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – The interim Government in Bangladesh has reached peak of anti-Hinduism. While the killing of Hindus is already going on, now it has hatched a plan to ban Hindus from celebrating festivals. The Yunus Government has announced a list of Government holidays for the year 2026. According to this list, Hindu and Buddhist holidays such as Saraswati Puja, Buddha Purnima, Janmashtami and Durgashtami have been excluded. The guidelines issued by the interim Government state that all schools in the country will remain open on these days.

1. Some have accused the Government of hurting religious sentiments. People are expressing displeasure as holidays are given for Ramzan and Eid-ul-Fitr, while the number of holidays given for Hindu festivals and celebrations has been reduced compared to the past.

2. Some have alleged that the Government holiday notification mentioned Language Day holiday. That too was removed. On February 21st, the Bengali language received international recognition. The history of this language is linked to many languages ​​around the world. On February 21st, 1952, students in the then East Pakistan (now independent Bangladesh) started a movement demanding that Bengali be made the State language.
