New Delhi – The incidents of sudden unexplained deaths among youth have increased significantly in the last few years. Some people have been linking this to Corona vaccination; however, the detailed study conducted by the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has set this controversy to rest and conclusively established that there is no link between COVID 19 vaccination and the sudden deaths among the youth. The report published in ‘Indian Journal of Medical Research’ after study on the subject for about a year, states that vaccination is not the reason of sudden deaths but it involves other medical complications.
1. Many institutions across the country including ‘Indian Council of Medical Research’ and ‘National Centre for Disease Control’ have also conducted studies and they too have clarified that Corona vaccination in India is safe and effective.
2. AIIMS studied cases of deaths of young adults between 18-45 years. An important observation noted was that the risk and pattern of sudden death among the people who had been vaccinated and the unvaccinated was similar; therefore, there is no direct link between vaccination and sudden deaths among the youth.
3. The major and leading cause of sudden deaths amongst the youth as per the study is coronary artery disease wherein the coronary arteries supplying blood to the heart become narrow or stiff due to deposits of fats. Consequently, the heart does not get adequate quantity of oxygenated blood leading to heart attack.
4. The study was undertaken from May 2023 to April 2024 and 180 cases of sudden deaths were examined.
5. The experts opine that the youth in India need to bring in positive changes in their life style since the main cause of sudden deaths is coronary artery disease.
