New Delhi – In a major revelation in the Delhi bomb blast case, the arrested accused Dr Shaheen Saeed and Dr Muzammil confessed during interrogation that they had stolen chemicals from the laboratory of Al-Falah University for manufacturing explosives.
Meanwhile, in a separate action, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the residence of Jawad Siddiqui, chairman of the Al-Falah group, in connection with a money-laundering investigation and subsequently arrested him.
Attempt to make suicide bombers
Dr Umar, who was killed in the blast, was reportedly forming a team of suicide attackers. He was attempting to train selected individuals for this purpose. To indoctrinate Muslim youths, he created and circulated so-called ‘motivational’ videos intended to radicalise them.
These videos were sent to 11 individuals, of whom seven were Kashmiris; all linked to Al-Falah University in one way or another. The remaining four were reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala.
A Kashmiri associate who had provided Dr Umar with an ‘I 20’ car, had refused to become a suicide bomber. It was after this refusal that Umar began sending him the indoctrinating videos. Umar’s objective was to build a dedicated squad of suicide attackers.
Authorities examined 70 videos, of which 12 were filmed by Dr Umar himself. These were specifically sent to educated young men whom he was attempting to mould into ‘human bombs.’
