“India faces 2 kinds of terrorism – internal and external” : Congress Leader P Chidambaram

  • Statement of Congress Leader P. Chidambaram

New Delhi – “I have said this before and after the Pahalgam terror attack as well — that there are 2 kinds of terrorists: infiltrators and those who grow internally. I said the same during the parliamentary discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’. I was mocked for it, but the government remained silent, because it too was aware of these tendencies,” said senior Congress leader and former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, reacting to the recent bomb blast near the Red Fort.

What circumstances push Indian citizens towards terrorism?

Chidambaram further stated, “We must examine what kind of environment pushes Indian citizens towards terrorism.” (When Chidambaram himself was the Home Minister during Congress rule, he should be the one answering this question. Yet his statement attempts to subtly suggest that ‘Muslims in the country turn to terrorism because they face atrocities, the Babri structure was demolished, etc.’ This very mentality is why jihadi terrorism did not diminish under Congress rule, but instead kept rising! – Editor)

During Chidambaram’s tenure, there were bomb blasts almost every day! – BJP

Reacting to his remarks, BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh said, “Chidambaram may indeed have special expertise on terrorism, because during his tenure, bomb blasts occurred almost daily somewhere in the country. The present government and the public view terrorism simply as terrorism; they do not waste time classifying it. Today’s government responds firmly and decisively to terrorism. Those involved will certainly face punishment through due judicial process.”

He added, “This government is not like the previous one, during whose rule nobody even realised when 3,000 kilograms of explosives entered the country or when they were used. The present government, through vigilance and timely action, seized explosives. It is precisely due to this pressure that terrorists have resorted to incidents like the recent blast near the Red Fort.”

Editorial Perspective

India does not face 2 types of terrorism, but only one — jihadi terrorism. Time and again, it has been revealed that Indian and Pakistani Muslims carry out such acts. When Muslims in India receive every kind of support from Pakistan to execute such attacks, Chidambaram’s statement appears to be an attempt to assist Pakistan’s narrative indirectly.
