North 24 Parganas (Bengal) – After the Election Commission announced a special in-depth revision of voter lists in 12 states, panic has spread among Bangladeshi infiltrators living illegally in India. Many of them have started attempting to flee the country. At the Bashirhat border in North 24 Parganas district of Bengal, the Border Security Force (BSF) caught 48 infiltrators who were trying to cross into Bangladesh. They were handed over to the police. All the accused had been working as domestic helpers or daily wage laborers in Bengal and other states. (While these infiltrators were working as domestic help and labourers, did neither the police nor the Indians employing them notice this ? Or was it ignored despite being known, simply because they worked for lower wages ? This must be investigated, and strict action should be taken against those responsible ! – Editor)

In the last three days, a total of 89 Bangladeshi infiltrators have been arrested. They were produced in court and sent to 14 days of judicial custody.

Editorial Perspective

Indians believe that, instead of arresting and detaining such people and feed them or subjecting them to lengthy deportation procedures, they should not be prevented from returning to their country if they choose to do so voluntarily.
