‘Gen Z’ launches new political party in Nepal

Prepared to contest next year’s election

Kathmandu (Nepal) – A group of Nepal’s ‘Gen Z’ youth announced in a press conference on 18 October that they intend to form a new political party. They also expressed readiness to participate in the upcoming general elections next year, provided certain conditions are met. The general elections in Nepal are scheduled for 5 March 2026.

Last month, members of ‘Gen Z’ had staged large-scale protests against the Nepal Government over issues such as corruption and social media restrictions. Following the agitation, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign. Later, on 12 September, an interim government was formed under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

Miraj Dhungana, leader of the ‘Gen Z’ movement, presented the new party’s agenda. Dhungana stated, “It has become necessary to establish a political party to unite the youth associated with this movement. We have two demands – to introduce a directly elected executive system in the country and to grant voting rights to citizens residing abroad. Until these demands are accepted, we will not contest the elections.”
