Advocate attempts to hurl shoe at Chief Justice Gavai

Advocate said, “I will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan Dharma!”

New Delhi – In the Supreme Court, an advocate attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai during a court hearing. The advocate walked up to the judges’ dais, removed his shoe, and tried to hurl it at the Chief Justice. The court’s security personnel immediately restrained him and escorted him out of the courtroom. While being taken out, the advocate shouted, “We will not tolerate any insult to Sanatan Dharma.”

“Such things don’t affect me !” – Chief Justice

Following the incident, Chief Justice Gavai calmly asked the advocates present to continue with their arguments, remarking that such acts make no difference to him.

Incident linked to remarks on Idol of Shri Vishnu

It is being claimed that the advocate’s outburst was triggered by remarks made by Chief Justice Gavai a few days earlier during a hearing related to a petition in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The plea had sought to replace a 7-foot-tall broken Idol of Shri Vishnu with a new one. Dismissing the petition, the Chief Justice had said, “Go and ask God to do it Himself. You claim to be a staunch devotee of Shri Vishnu — then go and pray to Him.” It is alleged that this remark led to the advocate’s attempted shoe attack.
