Incident at Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh)

Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh) – In Nayakheda village on 1stOctober, while a procession for the immersion of Goddess Durga’s Idol was passing in front of a mosque, Muslims hurled stones at the Hindus following a dispute over playing DJ (large sound system). The Idol was damaged and a Hindu youth was injured in the attack. (Why was there no police presence during the procession ? If the route passed in front of a mosque, police should have foreseen the possibility of untoward incidents – Editor).
Following this, Hindus and pro-Hindu organisations staged a night-long protest demanding the arrest of the culprits. (Why should such a demand even be necessary ? Police should have acted on their own initiative ! – Editor). Additional police force was called in to bring the situation under control.
Nepanagar MLA Manju Dadu reached the protest site and appealed for peace. Due to her intervention, the situation calmed and people returned to their homes.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Shankar Chauhan alleged that after the incident police had told them to immerse the Idol, but when they went to file a complaint, they themselves were attacked.
