An Exhibition of obscene paintings of Shri Mahakali and Deity Shiva

  • At ‘Maskara’ Art Gallery in Mumbai

  • An FIR registered against Hindu-hater painter, T Venkanna and art gallery owner Abhay Maskara after a complaint lodged by advocate Vishal Nakhawa

Mumbai, 27th September – Right during the Navaratri festival, ‘Maskara’ art gallery in Colaba has held an exhibition of obscene paintings of Shri Mahakali Devi and Deity Shiva. Under the guise of art, nude, indecent and sensual paintings of the Goddess and Deity Shiva are drawn showing them in erotic poses. Advocate Vishal Nakhawa has filed an FIR against painter T Venkanna and ‘Maskara’ art gallery’s curator Abhay Maskara. Devout Hindu activists are demanding arrest of both these persons.

As stated in the FIR, advocate Vishal Nakhawa, on receiving the information about exhibition of obscene paintings of Hindu Deities, went to the art gallery to verify and questioned Abhay Maskara about the exhibition. Maskara stated while justifying the painter that it was his artistic concept. Activists of other devout Hindu organisations also reached the art gallery on learning about the matter and at the Police Station. A case has been filed in this context in the late evening in the presence of devout Hindu activists including Mr Madan Reddy, Mr Bharat Patel and Mrs Mitali Patel.

Most offensive paintings under the guise of art

In a painting displayed in this exhibition, Shri Mahakalidevi has been shown as nude with a sword, a lotus, flame and a head in Her hands. The fierce form of Mahakali is shown in this manner but she is also shown with ornaments and a garland of hands around Her waist. In this painting, however, Devi has been painted in a sensual manner showing her breasts and vulva. There is no sign of any respect expected for a painting of Deity. Her hair is also shown as uncombed. Deity Shiva has been shown as lying at the feet of Shri Mahakali Devi also in nude, and Deity Shiva’s ‘linga’ has been painted in the direction of Shri Mahakali Devi’s vulva; thus, trying to exhibit eroticism. In other paintings too, paintings of Shri Durgadevi and Deity Shiva are shown in nude and in obscene manner in this exhibition.

Editorial Perspective

One cannot be a Hindu if his blood doesn’t boil on reading this matter.

Exhibition closed down realising opposition of devout Hindu activists

Considering the opposition of devout Hindu activists and advocate Vishal Nakhwa’s complaint, Police staff has been deployed to guard the art gallery and the exhibition has been kept closed from the afternoon of 26.09.2025. There is a severe rage amongst devout Hindu activists about this obscene exhibition.

Editorial Perspectives

  • All Hindus should put pressure on the Government to punish such Hindu-haters with death sentence.
  • It is a matter of shame for 100 crore Hindus that such Hindu-hater painters can dare to make such paintings. The Government should also close down the art gallery and punish its owner with life imprisonment.
  • Please note that nobody dares to meddle with religious things in respect of followers of other Sects and if it happens, riots are staged everywhere in the country. Hindus need to at least come together against such matters.
  • Lack of unity and ‘Dharmashikshan’ amongst Hindus is leading to such denigration of Hindu Deities through indecent paintings. When are Hindus going to realise it ?
  • All Hindus should keep ideal of devout Hindu activists before them who fight against insult of Hindu Deities.
