Life imprisonment for those involved in forced conversions

Jaipur (Rajasthan) – The much-debated “Rajasthan Illegal Religious Conversion Prohibition Bill, 2025” was passed in the State Assembly on 10th September. The government has introduced strict provisions in this legislation against individuals engaged in religious conversions.
The bill stipulates life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of forcibly converting people to another religion. If an organization is found involved in conversions, its building can be demolished with a bulldozer. However, the bill specifies that no action will be taken against those undergoing “Ghar Wapsi” (reconversion to Hinduism).
The severity of punishment under this law will depend on the gravity of the offense.
Last month, during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, the draft of this bill was approved. It is being hailed as a significant step in the legal history of the state.
