Davangere (Karnataka) – In Mattikallu area in the city, a poster depicting killing of Afzal Khan was installed. On 29th August, the Police asked the concerned Hindus to remove the poster by 10.30 a.m., citing law and order concerns. However, when it came to light that the Police themselves removed it at 1.30 a.m., the local Hindus held a strong protest.
Devout Hindus explained that the purpose of the poster was to make the society aware of true history when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan. However, the Police opposed the display alleging it will create tension in the society. When the Police tried to remove the poster, Hindus protested strongly. After the protest the Police had given them a deadline to remove the poster but the night before they themselves removed it.
By the time the last information was received the local devout Hindu leaders and activists were scheduled to hold a meeting on 29th August.
