Tehran (Iran) – Iran has initiated strict action against the Afghan refugees. In the last 100 days, Iran has sent back ten lakh Afghan citizens and among them, 4 lakhs are from Tehran region, informed Tehran’s Governor Mohammad-Sadegh Motamedian. After the war with Israel last month, Iran has started action against illegal Afghan refugees in that country.
1. Hassan Mousavi Chelik, the chief of Iran’s social workers’ organisation stated that while recently sending back the Afghan refugees, the officers indiscriminately took action without verifying the legal status of the refugees.
2. According to Iranian officers, inquiries into a few serious allegations against the Afghan groups such as spying, terrorism and making drones, etc are being investigated now; therefore, their presence in the country can be dangerous.
3. Warning was given in March 2025 !

In March 2025, Iran gave a clear warning to all illegal residents to leave the country by 06.07.2025; else action would be taken. Many refugees, however, ignored the warning; therefore, now they are being deported. There are about 60 lakh Afghan citizens in Iran which has caused additional burden on basic amenities offered to citizens.
