(‘Honey trap’ refers to ensnaring a person using a woman to extract information or gain leverage)

Mumbai, 17 July – Confidential documents are being obtained from top administrative officers in Maharashtra by entrapping them in so-called ‘honey traps’, claimed Congress MLA Nana Patole in the Assembly. He alleged that Mantralaya, along with the cities of Nashik and Thane, have become the primary centres of such operations.
Patole raised the matter in the Assembly on 16 July, but criticised the state Government’s silence, noting that no minister issued a statement or response, showing that the Government is not taking the issue seriously.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said,
“I will gather information on the matter, conduct an inquiry, and inform the House accordingly.”
Patole further claimed, “Important Government documents are falling into the hands of anti-national organisations. I am not trying to defame anyone’s character, but I even have a pen drive as evidence.”
Following his statement, Speaker Rahul Narwekar directed the Government to provide clarifications on all issues raised in the House before the end of the Assembly session on 18 July.
