Strong action must be taken against substandard fertilizers : Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Letter from the Union Agriculture Minister to all Chief Ministers !

New Delhi – Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has issued directives through a letter to the Chief Ministers of all States and Union Territories, urging strict action against fake and substandard fertilizers. This initiative aims to prevent harm to farmers caused by inferior products and to ensure the timely availability of quality fertilizers at fair prices.

Key points highlighted by the Union Minister in his letter:

1. Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy, and timely access to quality fertilizers is crucial to sustaining farmers’ incomes. It is imperative to take stern measures against illegal practices such as the sale of counterfeit fertilizers and black marketing of subsidized fertilizers.

2. Ensuring fertilizer availability is the responsibility of the States. Vigilance is required over black marketing, inflated pricing, and improper distribution of subsidized fertilizers. Additionally, regular monitoring of fertilizer production and sales, along with a robust testing protocol, is essential to curb substandard fertilizers.

3. To safeguard farmers from such malpractices, it is necessary to raise awareness and establish effective mechanisms for gathering feedback directly from them.
