Pilot Association opposes attempts to blame pilots based on preliminary investigation

Ahmedabad plane crash incident

Captain Sumit Sabharwal and co-pilot Clive Kunder

Mumbai – The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is investigating the recent Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, released its preliminary report two days ago. The report stated that the fuel supply to the aircraft’s engine was cut off, and the crash occurred due to the fuel supply switch being turned off. Based on this, some individuals claimed that the incident was akin to pilot suicide.

In response, the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) criticised these claims, saying, ‘The pilots of the crashed Air India aircraft acted responsibly under challenging conditions. Captain Sumit Sabharwal and co-pilot Clive Kundar should not be defamed based solely on speculation’.

The association emphasized that until the official investigation is fully completed and a final report is published, such speculative statements are unacceptable and should be condemned.
