Liz Cameron: Author of the book ‘Cult Bride: How I Was Brainwashed – and How I Broke Free’

Canberra (Australia) – A writer named Liz Cameron from here had written a book based on her own life. Titled Cult Bride: How I Was Brainwashed – And How I Broke Free, this book has now been adapted into a documentary by ‘Channel 7’ titled The Cult Next Door. Based on events from Liz’s life in 2011, this documentary has brought the issue back into discussion.

The heart-wrenching tale of 18-year-old Liz, who fell under Christian influence –

1. In 2011, Liz Cameron was 18. At that time, she fell into the trap of a group that preached Christianity.

2. A woman from this group named Yujun cleverly deceived her with sweet talk. Liz got entangled in it without realising. Eventually, she left her home and began living with the Christian group in Canberra.

3. She was so brainwashed that she began to believe, “Pastor Joshua from South Korea, who had raped 3 women, is everything to me.”

4. She was told that “Joshua loves you.” This made her feel she was a “special bride” and she began considering herself fortunate.

5. Later, when she was taken to South Korea, Pastor Joshua expressed his desire to have sexual relations with her. At that moment, Liz felt that doing everything with Joshua was ‘sacred’. Thus, she engaged in sexual relations with him.

6. Over time, Liz’s health deteriorated. In January 2012, she had to be hospitalised. Her mother met her there and rescued her from the church’s clutches. With the help of psychiatrists, she eventually realised the truth and broke free. She was able to piece together the entire strategy used to trap her, and later wrote a book about it.

7. After Liz’s case came to light, Pastor Joshua alias Jung Myung-seok was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2023. He was already serving sentences for rape and sexual abuse of 3 women.

8. Today, Liz works as a lawyer in Canberra and is also pursuing a degree in psychology. She guides others on the conspiracies of fanatics and how they manipulate people’s minds.

9. A documentary titled The Cult Next Door has been made based on this episode from her life.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Please note the perverse reality of Christians.
  • Cases of sexual abuse of young men and women by Christian pastors surface from time to time; however, due to media’s ‘editorial policies’ being unfavourable to such reports, they turn a blind eye, discarding journalistic ethics.
