Murudeshwar (Karnataka) – From 22 June, the administration of the world renowned Shri Murudeshwar Temple has implemented a mandatory dress code. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Karnataka Temple Federation and other Hindutva organisations submitted a request to the temple administration in December 2022. Their petition called for the implementation of a dress code and now the administration has complied. This move has been widely praised. Mr Mohan Gowda, the Karnataka spokesperson for the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, expressed hope that this decision would inspire all temples across the state to adopt similar regulations.

In their 2022 petition, the Samiti stated that devotees visiting Murudeshwar Temple must ensure that their attire aligns with the sacred atmosphere. People wearing Western or revealing clothing should be denied entry. Only those dressed in traditional Indian clothing should be allowed inside.

Mr. Sharath Kumar of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had submitted a statement to the temple administration in December 2022.

More than 250 temples in Karnataka have already implemented dress codes Mr Gowda added that this is the result of collective effort by various organisations. Following appeals by the Samiti, over 250 temples in Karnataka including the renowned Virupaksha Temple in Hampi and the Sharadamba Temple in Sringeri have successfully adopted dress codes.
