Mumbai – “Wari processions cause traffic jams. Hindu festivals are celebrated on roads, and no Muslim ever complains about them. But when Muslims offer namaz on the road for just 10 minutes, people start raising objections,” said Abu Azmi of the Samajwadi Party.
He also alleged that Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath went as far as to threaten cancellation of passports for those offering namaz on the road. In response, Warkaris condemned Azmi’s statement and called him an “ignorant person.”
On this issue, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Abu Azmi always makes such irrelevant statements. He is not worth the attention.”
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske added, “One should not make such statements without having any merit. How do we know this isn’t an attempt to provoke riots? Such people should not even be allowed to contest elections.”
Editorial PerspectiveMany Hindus believe that Abu Azmi is deliberately provoking sentiments by comparing the centuries-old Wari tradition to road namaz and hurting their religious feelings. |
