18 assistant teacher appointments cancelled due to fake ‘Adeeb-e-Kamil’ degrees
Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) – The Allahabad High Court has upheld the cancellation of appointments of 18 individuals who had secured positions as assistant teachers using allegedly invalid degrees from Jamia Urdu Aligarh. The court ruled that the Adeeb-e-Kamil degree, awarded by the institution, is not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), and therefore not valid for teacher appointments. Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamsheri stated in the judgment that Jamia Urdu Aligarh conferred degrees after 6 months to 1 year of instruction—reportedly without proper classes or teachers. As the institution is unrecognized, those who obtained such degrees are ineligible for teaching posts. “Appointments obtained through misrepresentation are liable to be cancelled,” the court noted, dismissing the petitions of 18 individuals, including Azhar Ali. Key details from the case:
1. Petitioners’ claim: The petitioners claimed they completed their 12th -grade education, enrolled in Jamia Urdu, passed the exam within a year, and later cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in 2013. They subsequently appeared for assistant teacher recruitment exams and were either appointed, awaiting appointment, or yet to be allotted schools.
2. Basis of cancellation: According to B.P. Singh Kachwah, advocate for the Basic Education Officers, the cancellation orders were issued following an investigation into a formal complaint regarding the legitimacy of the degrees.
3. Investigation findings: The inquiry revealed that Jamia Urdu Aligarh operated without any registered teachers or functioning classrooms, further undermining the authenticity of the academic qualifications it awarded.
