VHP calls for bandh in Dakshina Kannada District
Mangaluru (Karnataka) – On the evening of 1stMay, a Hindutva activist named Suhas Shetty was brutally murdered in the city of Mangaluru, located in the Dakshina Kannada District. Suhas Shetty had been accused in the murder of Fazil, an accused in the killing of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru, and had other criminal cases registered against him as well.

1. According to Police reports, Suhas Shetty was murdered at 8:27 PM on 1stMay at Kinnipadavu Cross. At the time, he was traveling in a four-wheeler along with Sanjay, Prajwal, Anvit, Latish, and Shashank. Attackers in other vehicles intercepted their car and assaulted Suhas Shetty with deadly weapons. He sustained critical injuries and was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.
2. The Police have identified the accused in the case and formed special teams to apprehend them. They are expected to be arrested soon, according to official statements.
3. In the wake of the murder, prohibitory orders have been imposed in Mangaluru until 6th May. Suhas Shetty’s funeral was held on 2nd May amid heavy security.
4. Protesting the murder, the Vishva Hindu Parishad had called for a bandh in Dakshina Kannada District on 2ndMay. Several private buses were pelted with stones in Mangaluru and Mulki, and roadblocks were erected in some areas. Bus services across the District were disrupted, and all shops and commercial establishments remained closed in response to the bandh call.
5. Senior BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa stated in a post on ‘X’ that the brutal act has deeply shocked the community. He said that criminals seem to have no fear of the law, and such heinous crimes reflect the deteriorating law and order situation in the State. He demanded that the State Government immediately arrest the culprits.
