India bans 17 Pakistani YouTube channels

Including news channels Dawn News, Geo News, as well as channels of cricketer Shoaib Akhtar

New Delhi – Cricketer-turned-commentator Shoaib Akhtar’s YouTube channel was blocked in India on Monday, 28th April. The blocking of the channel comes in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead in the Kashmir valley. Shoaib Akhtar, who is popular in India for his match analysis and takes on world cricket, was amongst 16 other channels that got blocked by the Government of India. The banned platforms, which collectively have around 63 million subscribers, include major Pakistani news channels such as Dawn News, Samaa TV, ARY News, Bol News, Raftar, Geo News, and Suno News.

Meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his residence in New Delhi. The meeting, which lasted for around 40 minutes, came in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and the actions that followed. It is not clear what was discussed in this meeting. On the previous day, Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, had met Mr Singh. The Director General of the Border Security Force also went to the Home Ministry and discussed with the Home Secretary.

After the Pahalgam incident, the Pakistani army violated the ceasefire for the fourth consecutive day and fired on Indian army posts. The Indian army also retaliated to this.

BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey has said that around 5 lakh Pakistani women have married Indian men and are now living in the country. He claimed that these marriages could be linked to a new kind of terrorism. Dubey raised serious concerns and urged the government to investigate these cases closely.

He said that many people might be using marriage as a way to enter India illegally. According to him, this method allows some individuals to settle in the country without proper checks. He said that such cases could pose a risk to national security. He called this a “new face of terrorism” and said that India must not ignore the threat.

Pakistan wants involvement of Russia and China in investigating the Pahalgam terror attack, according to a media report. Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif in a recent interview expressed his desire for Russia, China and other Wester countries to join the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, to determine “whether India was telling the truth”.

Owaisi criticised Pakistan’s repeated ceasefire violation following the Pahalgam terror attack. “To those sitting in Pakistan and saying rubbish you are half hour behind India, but they are not just half an hour behind they are half a century behind. Your country’s budget is not even equal to our military budget,” the leader said.

He further said that targeting people of India based on religion is equivalent to acting like ISIS and warned Pakistan of consequences if nuclear weapons are used against India.

Pakistanis who do not leave India can face 3 years in prison

India has ordered Pakistani citizens who are in India with visas to leave the country by 29th April. If Pakistani citizens do not leave India by this date, they can be punished with three years in prison or a fine of Rs 3 lakh or both.
