Ranchi (Jharkhand) – During an event held on April 14 to commemorate Dr B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, Congress MLA and Jharkhand’s Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs, and Minority Welfare, Hafizul Hasan Ansari, made a controversial remark : “We follow Sharia first, and then the Constitution. In Islam, Sharia holds great importance. The Quran resides in our hearts, and the Constitution in our hands.”

In response, the Jharkhand unit of the BJP strongly criticized Ansari’s statement, saying :  “For those whose hearts lie with Sharia, the doors of Pakistan and Bangladesh are open. India will always run according to Dr Ambedkar’s Constitution, which will remain supreme.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • Is it acceptable to insult the very Constitution that Dr Ambedkar authored, especially during a program held in his honour ?
  • Congress leader Rahul Gandhi often claims to uphold and protect the Constitution. Will he now respond to the contradictory remarks made by his party’s Muslim MLA ?
  • Once again, it is clear that religion takes precedence for Muslims. And as expected, so-called secularists remain silent—because secularism, it seems, is only meant for Hindus !
