In general, okra (lady’s fingers) is chopped in the traditional way of small round pieces; but nowadays, chopping okra diagonally or vertically is more prevalent. Scientific research was conducted by Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay in Sanatan Ashram, Goa, using UAS (Universal Aura Scanner) device to study ‘How chopping okra in different ways and having the dishes prepared from them affects one spiritually’. Interpretation of the observations, conclusions and the spiritual analysis is given below. (key word : Lady’s Finger is also known as Okra)

The Universal Aura Scanner (UAS) was developed in 2005 by Dr. Mannem Murthy, a former nuclear scientist from Telengana. By using this instrument the energy and the aura of an object, a premises, an animal or an individual can be measured.
1. Interpretation of observations in the study : UAS readings were taken before chopping the okra and after chopping them diagonally, vertically and as round pieces. Readings were taken of the three dishes prepared from each of these chopped vegetables.
In this study, an individual with spiritual distress, an individual without distress and an individual without distress and 67 percent spiritual level participated. Each individual was asked to eat the three okra dishes, as per the 3 different ways they were chopped in. UAS readings were taken before eating the dish and 20 mins after eating the dish.
Effect of okra chopped diagonally, vertically and as round pieces and its effect on the individuals after eating the dishes is given below.

1 A. Effect on Lady’s finger (Okra) chopped diagonally, vertically and as round pieces
Components | Negative Aura (Metres) | Positive Aura (Metres) |
1. Lady’s finger (Okra) before being chopped | 0 | 1.94 |
2. Lady’s finger (Okra) chopped diagonally | 2.64 | 0 |
3. Lady’s finger (Okra) chopped vertically | 1.98 | 0 |
4. Lady’s finger (Okra) chopped round | 0 | 3.50 |
The following points were noted from the above table. [lady’s finger referred as Okra]
1. Before chopping Okra, it contained only positive energy and no negative energy.
2. Okra chopped diagonally and vertically did not have any positive energy; but had a lot of negative energy.
3. In the Okra chopped as round pieces, no negative energy was found, but had only positive energy.
1 A 1. Conclusion : As the Okra chopped diagonally and vertically attract negative vibrations, it is not advisable to chop them this way. Okra chopped as round pieces attract positive vibrations, hence chopping them in this way is advisable.
1 B. Effect on the dish prepared from Okra chopped diagonally, vertically and as round pieces and the effect on the individuals in the study after eating each of these 3 dishes
1. The dish made from the diagonally chopped okra was found to have negative energy.
2. Compared to the dishes from the okra chopped diagonally and vertically, the dish prepared from the okra chopped as round pieces was found to have much higher positive energy.
3. After eating the dish made from the diagonally chopped and vertically chopped okra the individuals were affected by negative energy : The negative energies in the individuals with spiritual distress and without spiritual distress increased after eating the dishes made from diagonally and vertically chopped okra, whereas the positive energy in the individual without spiritual distress and 67 percent spiritual level, reduced.
4. After eating the dish made from the okra chopped as round pieces, positive energy was generated in the individuals : After eating the dish made from okra chopped as round pieces, the negative energy in the individuals without spiritual distress and with distress reduced. Similarly, in the individual with spiritual distress, positive energy was generated and the positive energies of both the individuals without spiritual distress increased.
2. Conclusion : The individuals in the study were affected by negative vibrations after eating the dishes made from diagonally and vertically chopped okra. On the contrary, after eating the dish made from the okra chopped as round pieces, the individuals were benefited by positive vibrations. This denotes the importance of chopping vegetable in a Sattvik way.
3. Spiritual analysis of the components in the study
3 A. Chopping vegetables in a Sattvik way imparts positivity to the vegetables : There is spiritual science behind the practices related to cooking in Hindu Dharma. Chopping vegetables in a Sattvik way stops the generation of raja – tama vibrations during the process of chopping vegetables. Nowadays, it is common to chop vegetables diagonally or vertically. By chopping the vegetables diagonally or vertically, distressful vibrations are immediately attracted towards the vegetables thus loading them with negative vibrations. The conclusion of the study was as follows
1. Negative vibrations were emitted from the dishes made from the diagonally and vertically chopped vegetables.
2. Positive vibrations were emitted from the dish cooked from the vegetable chopped as round pieces.
This aptly shows the importance of chopping the vegetables in a Sattvik way.
3 B. The person eating the dish prepared from the vegetable chopped in a Sattvik way is spiritually benefited : Chopping a vegetable in a Sattvik way increases the Sattvikta of the vegetable. While cooking a vegetable, due to the rites of fire, its Sattvikta further enhances. After cooking okra chopped as round pieces there was further enhancement in its positive vibrations. After eating this vegetable, the individuals benefited at the spiritual level due to reduction in their negative vibrations and generation or increase in their positive vibrations.
Compared to the dish from okra chopped as round pieces, dishes from diagonally or vertically chopped okra were found to have lesser positive vibrations. After eating the dish from the okra chopped diagonally or vertically, the negative vibrations in the individuals increased, simultaneously reducing their positive vibrations. This implies that by eating such dishes, instead of getting spiritual benefit, they suffered a loss at the spiritual level.
In short, how ‘the act of chopping vegetables’ affects the vegetable as well as the one who eats it at the subtle level, is depicted from this scientific study. Similarly, it also shows how in Hindu Dharma the code of conduct related to cooking is appropriate and perfect.
