Mandla (MP) – There is a school named ‘Shine for India Eng School, Ghutas’ or ‘Sign for India’ in Ghutas village where 15 girls and 33 boys staying in the school’s hostel have been converted to Christianity. The school doesn’t even have the necessary permission to run a hostel.
It was observed by the Madhya Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) in its investigations that the children were misled to adopt Christianity. The school is being run by Jyoti Raj from Odisha. The Commission has taken up the matter seriously and relevant detailed information has been forwarded to its main office in Bhopal and the State administration for necessary action.
Children were talking about becoming pastors instead of doctors and engineers
Omkar Singh, a member of the SCPCR informed that the 48 children are from Damoh and surrounding areas of Anuppur in Odisha. The SCPCR squad had discussions with the children when a few shocking facts were revealed. Instead of talking about becoming a doctor or engineer, the boys were talking about becoming pastors and girls about being nuns. The children informed the squad that they were advised to adopt Christianity. They were totally influenced and misled. Many religious books along with the Bible were found in the school which was also a proof of the religious conversions going on in the school.
Prayers and Bible in school
K K Upadhyay, a Police Officer stated that there was a doubt about something fishy going on in the school. The children were seen carrying copies of Bible to the prayer room by the SCPCR squad when they visited the school. The children conveyed that they recite Christian prayers at 6.30 p.m. every day. Earlier, they used to follow other religions.
CCTV fixed in girls’ wash-rooms
Dr Nivedita Sharma, a member of SCPCR, stated that the religion of those children was mentioned as Hindu and caste as Gond in the school’s papers; but they were shown as Christians in the records of their hostel. No proper papers were found about the children. There were CCTV cameras fixed in the girls’ wash-rooms which is most objectionable.
Most of the schools in Mandla are in a similar condition
Tarendra Chaurasia, a social activist from Mandla district, reported that the red thread from children’s wrists and ‘tilak’ from their foreheads have disappeared. Hindu signs have been wiped out. Along with the children from scheduled tribes, even children from the Baiga community have also been converted. They are being asked to make Christian prayers without the permission from their parents. In their school applications too, the forms show them as Christian. Similar cases are coming forth almost from all schools in the village.
Demand to find the source of funding of Christian missionaries
There are only about 100 families in this backward village where Christian missionaries have been spending crores of rupees to build schools and children pay a nominal fee for the education in these schools which is surprising. It is important to find out the purpose behind such activities and their financiers. Demands to that effect have been received by the State Government.
