Cash found at the residence of Delhi High Court Judge

Chief Justice transfers the judge and orders an enquiry

New Delhi – The residence of Yashwant Varma, a Delhi High Court Judge caught fire on the day of Holi. At the time of the incident, no member of the Varma family was present at home. Residents called the Fire Brigade and the Police and informed about the fire. After the fire was extinguished, the Fire Brigade noticed large amount of cash in some of the rooms of the bungalow. When the matter was reported, Judge Varma was transferred.

After the incident of the cash present in Judge Varma’s rooms came to light, Sanjiv Khanna, the Chief Justice of India called a meeting of the Collegium of Judges and sent back Judge Yashwant Varma to Allahabad High Court whichhe had served until October 2021. A major enquiry committee may now be constituted to commence impeachment proceedings against Judge Yashwant Varma. He might even be asked to resign.
