Burhanpur (MP) – Following the violence in Nagpur, a similar conspiracy to incite riots in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, has been exposed. Tension erupted in Burhanpur over alleged objectionable remarks against Islam. A large number of religious fanatics gathered to gherao the Kotwali Police Station. Seeing the Muslim mob, local Hindus closed their shops and fled the area. As soon as authorities received information about the situation, District Collector Harsh Singh, Additional Collector Veersingh Chouhan, and Superintendent of Police Devendra Patidar arrived at the scene with heavy Police deployment. The Police managed to bring the situation under control.
For security reasons, Burhanpur’s market has been closed. Additionally, the Police have arrested the accused responsible for the controversial remarks on social media. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Recently, violence broke out in Nagpur over a dispute concerning Aurangzeb’s tomb. Rioters set fire to 12 two-wheelers, several four-wheelers, and a JCB machine. In this violence, 33 Police personnel, including three Deputy Commissioners, were injured. Police have arrested 50 individuals in connection with the incident.
Editorial PerspectiveWhenever people make derogatory remarks against Hinduism, no riots or arson take place. However, certain minorities immediately take the law into their own hands over alleged criticism of their religion, targeting Hindus and Government institutions. Owing to this, a law should be enacted to revoke all the democratic rights granted to such community. |
