Won’t spare those who attacked the Police : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Nagpur riot incident

Mumbai – ‘The riot that occurred in Nagpur was premeditated; a trolley full of stones was found, and some people had stored stones on their rooftops. A large number of weapons were also seized. Vehicles were set on fire, and specific houses and establishments were targeted. Three Police officers were injured, and an attack was carried out on the Deputy Commissioner of Police with an axe. Those who attack the Police will not be spared. Several vehicles were torched during the incident. In total, 33 Police officers were injured, along with five civilians. Three civilians were treated and discharged, while two remain in the hospital, one of whom is in the intensive care unit’, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in the Legislative Assembly.

The CM further said :

1. Three cases have been registered, and two more are in process. A curfew has been imposed in the jurisdictions of 11 Police stations.

2. Roadblocks have been set up at entry points, covering areas under the Tehsil, Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Panchpaoli, Lakadganj, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodhara Nagar, and Kapil Nagar Police stations. Five teams of the State Reserve Police Force have been deployed.

3. Strict action will be taken against those involved. No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands. The Police were working to restore peace and attacking them in such a situation is unacceptable.

4. Maintaining law and order in Maharashtra is everyone’s responsibility. I urge all citizens to remain calm, especially as religious festivals of various communities are ongoing.

Unfortunately, protection has to be provided to Aurangzeb’s tomb: Chief Minister

‘Aurangzeb’s tomb is not needed at all. However, the Archaeological Survey of India declared it a protected site 50 years ago. Its protection is the responsibility of the Union and State governments. It is unfortunate that the tomb of Aurangzeb, who killed thousands, has to be safeguarded’, Chief Minister Fadnavis said.

State Congress President Harshavardhan Sapkal should apologise: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

Aurangzeb, known for his cruelty, cannot be compared to anyone. However, Sapkal compared CM Devendra Fadnavis to Aurangzeb, which is highly condemnable. Maharashtra follows the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and insulting the Chief Minister is an insult to the State. Harshavardhan Sapkal must apologise to both Maharashtra and the Chief Minister.

Aurangzeb killed his brother, imprisoned his father, and declared his younger brother insane. He also tortured Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Hence, Aurangzeb was undoubtedly cruel. Sapkal claimed that Fadnavis’ Government is equally ruthless, leading to criticism from the Deputy Chief Minister.

Developments after the Nagpur riot

1. Police investigations and a large-scale combing operation are ongoing. More than 150 people have been charged, and several arrests have been made. Authorities are conducting site inspections and examining 1,800 social media accounts. Barricades have been set up.

2. The burning of cranes and JCBs by the mob may impact developmental projects. Many houses were pelted with stones, causing personal losses. Several CCTV cameras in the city were vandalised.

3. The rioters covered their faces with scarves and masks. They set a four-wheeler on fire by placing a large stone inside. The fire spread to a nearby Hindu family’s house, blackening its walls and windows.

4. The riots caused massive disruption to daily life. Many schools in the city were suddenly closed.

5. To control the situation, Police ordered all shops in the Mahal area to be shut. Citizens faced difficulties as the Police forcibly closed businesses and deployed additional security forces. Around 1,000 Police personnel were stationed in the Mahal area.

6. Roads leading to Mahal-Gandhi Gate were barricaded. Media personnel were also not allowed to enter the area. Police dispersed crowds gathered near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue, leading to protests against the Police. However, the crowd was eventually cleared.

7. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s sanitation workers cleaned the riot-affected areas between 1 am and 4 am. The debris included a large number of stones and glass shards.
