Muslim students hold unauthorised Iftar party at Ayurveda college in Haridwar (Uttarakhand)

Bajrang Dal warns of protest if no action taken within 3 days

(Iftar refers to breaking of the fast by Muslims during Ramzan)

Haridwar (Uttarakhand) – Some Muslim students of Rishikul Ayurveda College organised an Iftar party on 7thMarch. On 8thMarch, Bajrang Dal activists visited the college and opposed the event. They claimed that bringing outsiders into the Hindu religious city was a conspiracy and called it “Islamic Jihad.”

1. Bajrang Dal leader Amit Kumar stated that any such acts by non-Hindus in Haridwar violate municipal regulations. He warned that if action is not taken against the guilty students within three days, a large-scale protest would be launched.

2. College Director DC Singh confirmed receiving a complaint about students organising the party without permission. Teachers expelled the students after being informed by the security guard. However, their identities remain unclear. A committee has been formed to investigate the matter, and a report will be submitted within three days.

3. Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad activists staged a demonstration at the college entrance and attempted to enter but were stopped by the Police.

4. Bajrang Dal’s State Coordinator Anuj Walia stated that such actions offend Hindu sentiments and that strict action should be taken against those responsible.

5. The protesters also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through City Magistrate Kusum Chauhan, who stated that the Police had been verbally instructed to investigate the matter.

6. Rishikul College holds historical significance, as it is part of the university founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. This incident has sparked outrage among Hindu organisations.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Why is such a warning necessary ? Why doesn’t the college administration take action on its own ?
  • At Aligarh Muslim University, Hindu students were not granted permission to organise a ‘Holi Milan’ event, which forced them to protest. But here, Muslim students directly organise an Iftar party without permission. This reflects their audacity. Strict action must be taken against them.
