Death sentence of ULFA terrorist downgraded to life imprisonment

Bangladesh’s lenient stance on India’s enemies

ULFA terrorist Paresh Baruah

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – The Bangladesh High Court has further reduced the life imprisonment sentence of ULFA terrorist Paresh Baruah to just 14 years. In 2014, Barua was sentenced to death after being found guilty of smuggling weapons into India’s northeastern region. However, last month, his death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. Now, in an additional show of leniency, the duration of his life sentence has been reduced to 14 years.

It is believed that ULFA terrorist Paresh Baruah is currently residing in China. In 2014, he was sentenced to death in absentia by a Bangladeshi Court. His name also appears on the ‘Most Wanted’ list of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Order for the release of former BNP Minister

The Bangladesh High Court has also ordered the release of Lutfozzaman Babar, a former minister in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Government. Babar had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in facilitating arms smuggling to a separatist organisation operating in northeastern India.
