Situation on north border under control, though sensitive : Upendra Dwivedi

Indian army chief Upendra Dwivedi

New Delhi – The situation on the northern border, though sensitive, is under control. Prime Minister Modi had discussions on the issues with the Chinese leaders. I have instructed all co-commanders to keep a watch on the situation on land for patrolling. Those problems can be solved only at army level. We are focusing on boosting infrastructure and capability development on the border, informed Indian army chief Upendra Dwivedi in a press conference. He gave information on the security on all the borders of the country. He even mentioned about the situation at China and Myanmar borders and violence in Manipur.

Points elucidated by the Army Chief

Out of the militants active in Kashmir, 80% are Pakistani !

In Jammu-Kashmir, 80% of the presently active terrorists are from Pakistan. In 2024, 60% of the terrorists eliminated were of Pakistan origin. Presently, the situation in Kashmir is under control.

We are slowly moving towards tourism from terrorism !

The ceasefire pact entered with Pakistan in February 2021 is still holding up along the Line of Control though infiltration attempts are continuing. Despite terrorist activities of the last few months in North Kashmir and Doda-Kishtwar belt, the overall situation is under control. The Amarnath pilgrimage and State Legislative Assembly elections were conducted peacefully. There are signs of big changes. We are slowly moving towards tourism from terrorism.

Relations with Bangladesh will depend on the elected Government !

I was in contact with the army chief of Bangladesh at the time of change in power; but we can talk about the relations with Bangladesh only after a Government is elected there.

Manipur situation is now under control !

The synergised efforts by the security forces and proactive Government initiatives are bringing the situation in the North-East region slowly under control. There have been incidents of violence in Manipur but the armed forces are continuously trying to bring peace in the region. There are many voluntary organisations and senior officers communicating with the leaders of all communities on India-Myanmar border to establish peace and security.

Aim to make army self-reliant

To make our army self-reliant and prepare them for the challenges expected to face in future is my goal. Media and security forces need to work together for national security; therefore, I try to talk to the media.
